A Well-balanced Lifestyle

During afternoons, when most people are preparing to wrap things up before calling it a day, teacher Yannah Allen is just about to get started with hers. At around 4:30 PM, the online English teacher from Davao City begins conducting her lessons at 51Talk, which go on until the end of peak hours at 9:30 PM.

But her night doesn’t end there. After logging out of her last lesson, teacher Yannah would immediately move on to her full-time job as a therapy coordinator at a Texas-based company, and her shift there doesn’t  end until 6:00 AM the next day. This is her routine on weekdays and sometimes, she still spends her mornings running errands. Weekends, on the other hand, are dedicated solely to teaching with 51Talk.

While this setup might be exhausting to most people, teacher Yannah is actually thriving in it. As someone who is used to juggling multiple responsibilities, she finds it easy to transition from one role to another. “I’ve always led a dynamic lifestyle and it’s common for me to be involved in many things. I get easily bored doing monotonous tasks because I believe the only way for me to grow is by constantly exploring new endeavors, especially ones that will challenge me,” explained teacher Yannah.

When she’s not busy with teaching or work, teacher Yannah also manages a few real estate investments. Meanwhile, her free time is usually spent playing word puzzles and English quizzes online. This is her way of working on her English language skills, aside from attending 51Talk’s free training workshops whenever she can.

Teacher Yannah takes every role she plays seriously. As an online English teacher with 51Talk, she has made it her goal to help her students become as good at English as she is or even better, a reason as to why she is constantly pushing her own limits in mastering the English language. To teach effectively, she knows she has to be at the top of her game.

“Being an online English teacher is no easy task. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to not just teach, but build a connection with your students, too,” Teacher Yannah shared. “But I see myself being an online English teacher with 51Talk in the long term, and hopefully someday, become a trainer as well.”

“I want to be a part of my students’ English learning journey and for as long as more students get to learn from me, I will continue teaching with 51Talk. This is one role I will never get tired of playing,” she added.

On top of her current responsibilities, teacher Yannah is also the breadwinner in her family, a responsibility she offered to take on right after graduating from college. As the second eldest child among five siblings, she knew her contribution would go a long way since she still had younger siblings in school.

Currently, she uses her earnings at 51Talk to pay for their expenses at home, and also sustain a younger brother who is still studying in university. Though she earns more than enough at her current job as a therapy coordinator, teacher Yannah still wants to support her family’s needs and wants without compromising her savings, especially now that she’s about to get married. Fortunately, through 51Talk’s flexible teach-at-home setup, teacher Yannah is able to teach and earn at home, while plotting her own teaching schedule. The latter, she said, has significantly helped in making the most out of her time.

Looking at her, one would be amazed at how easily teacher Yannah manages everything. But she simply said that having a vision in mind has helped her every step of the way. “In my experience, the key to successfully managing one’s many endeavors in life is to simply stick to one’s goals. You have to be specific about what you want to achieve and be consistent and focused on the process of achieving it,” she explained.

Teacher Yannah added that while it’s easy to feel burdened by one’s responsibilities, circumstances and priorities vary among each person. She suggests that instead of following what most people seem to be doing, creating an arrangement that works is an effective way for someone to achieve balance in every aspect of his life.

“In a society wherein going with the flow has become so common, teaching with 51Talk has empowered me to create my flow. I’m beyond grateful for 51Talk for the countless opportunities it has offered me since the start of my journey as an online English teacher,” Teacher Yannah concludes.
