Behind the Face of a Passionate Teacher: Teacher Lyndon Bacon

You may already be familiar with teacher Lyndon Bacon as he appears in several social media campaigns and teacher engagement activities for 51Talk. With all these achievements under his belt, would you believe that he has only been teaching for 7 months on the platform?

Before joining 51Talk, teacher Lyndon Bacon taught as a senior high school English teacher. However, due to the pandemic, he had to look for ways to sustain his family financially. Even though he is the youngest, he is responsible for paying the bills since he is not yet married. That’s why he asked his co-teacher, who is also a 51Talk teacher, about the platform.

Soon enough, he joined 51Talk and his teaching journey with the platform began. He has been very proactive in promoting not only the brand but also the idea of teaching at home. His passion for teaching and dedication to the platform led to his becoming one of the faces of 51Talk.

Here is an excerpt from his speech during the SINO-PH Educational Exchange:

“I am an English teacher by profession. It has always been my dream to teach students no matter how young or mature they are. That dream always inspired me to strive for excellence in everything that I do, especially in my teaching job. I’ve taught countless students for the past 4 years, and I can say that I am meant to do this for the next years or decades of my life.

Learning and teaching English has been my passion since. I have always enjoyed every moment that I speak English with my students and other people. It seemed that speaking English has been my way of life for a long time now. My interest in the English language has never waned, and it continues to grow as I dwell in this job. I am also studying for my postgraduate degree, so I can enhance my knowledge and skills in teaching English for a wide variety of students in the near future.”

Aside from his promotional activities in the Philippines and China, he has also created his own YouTube channel and Facebook page to share his experiences of teaching online and encourage fellow or aspiring online English teachers to do their best.

Besides all these opportunities, teacher Lyndon Bacon says that 51Talk has helped him fulfill his duty as a son and custodian of their home. He also shares that because of his online teaching, he has overcome the difficulties he used to have with teaching kids because of his impatience. He shares, “The trust that the parents give to me is such a valuable reason for me to stay. Also, the appreciation that your students give weighs a lot more than earning money, for me. Lastly, other 51Talk teachers are also looking up to me, saying that I am inspiring them with the videos that I post on social media. These factors are keeping me grounded in the platform and expanding my roots as I discover more about my skills that will provide meaningful learnings for the students."

Teacher Lyndon Bacon also shares that he never expected the exposure he would receive from 51Talk. He remarks that he is surprised by all the opportunities he received, and it is a privilege that he will forever be grateful for. With 51Talk, he has met the people he only used to see on TV, and attend big, prestigious events that made him feel honored to be there.

He says, “After all the invitations, the compliments, and the encouragement from the people who support me, it made me more confident to say that “I might be doing my job well, so far.” Nevertheless, I always give my 100% in all my lessons, and I guess that I am harvesting the fruits of my hard work for the past 7 months.”
