Life can take you places but there is still no place like home. This is the story of teacher Leny Dolly, who came home to the Philippines in 2016 and found her happy place with 51Talk. Before that, she worked as a quality supervisor in Taiwan and her husband was a security officer in Singapore. The couple decided to stay put in the country after she gave birth to their lovely daughter.
Finding 51Talk
Teacher Leny Dolly is a resident of Bugallon, Pangasinan, where life is laid-back and opportunities for livelihood are limited. It was initially a challenge for the couple to sustain their family, as her husband had to become the sole breadwinner while she took care of their little one. However tempted they were to go back and resume their work overseas, the thought of leaving their child was too painful to bear. “We wished not to return overseas because we firmly believe that it is essential for our child to grow up in our arms.”
Their hopes were raised when the DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) became partners with 51Talk. This partnership paved the way for the introduction of a home-based livelihood program that enabled mothers like Leny Dolly to pursue an online teaching career.
The Love for Teaching
Teacher Leny Dolly found a home in 51Talk. She has been teaching on the biggest online English teaching platform since 2018. She became exceptionally good at teaching and is now one of the PhBEE Club Captains of the region.
Her passion for teaching comes with much gratitude as she is now earning even more than what she used to when she was overseas. “My profession as a 51Talk online English teacher is a blessing for my family. It even allowed me to help my siblings financially in times of need.”
Teacher Leny Dolly graduated with a degree in education, so she is also very thankful for the opportunity to make use of her college degree. “As a worker in Taiwan, I had been thinking for many years about my future and it felt like I had wasted my academic degree.”
Overcoming Hardships
Teacher Leny Dolly survived struggles in life, and it was her persistence, hard work, and faith in her family that kept her going. As a PhBEE Club Captain, she continues to inspire her members to always strive for excellence despite any given challenge. Her constant advice for her fellow teachers - “We face a lot of problems but we should be bigger than our problems; we are the masters of innovating in the face of hardships. We should never consider ourselves helpless and we can always do something - and something is better than nothing.”
