One such person who has grown in passion and dedication is teacher Analene Pam, a 51Talk home-based online English teacher from Davao City. She has been teaching on the platform since September of 2017. Being a 51Talk teacher has helped her develop her patience and creativity. She considers her profession as a life changer that she is most thankful for.

Going Above and Beyond in Teaching

There are certain challenges that a teacher faces on a regular basis keeping students engaged is one of them. “I always see an opportunity to showcase my talents and skills. When my students seem distracted, I play games that are related to the lesson with them. I also show them interesting items that appeal to their age and interests, such as toys, food, flowers, and cute hats.” Since teacher Analene Pam is a good guitar player, she also plays a tune for her students so they can sing during the lesson together.

There are, however, a few times when her students are really tired and cannot fully participate. She immediately improvises to ensure a quality lesson and make learning more fun. “I crack jokes and laugh with them and I sometimes make faces to make them smile. I also make my voice livelier and give my students rewards for their active participation during lessons.”

Family is important for teacher Analene Pam; her flexible working schedule allows her to spend more quality time with them. As a home-based teacher, she does not need to leave home to enjoy her profession. “Online teaching makes me happy because it gives me more time to be with my family. It has also given me more time to achieve my personal goals in life; goals that motivate me to continue teaching despite the challenges that I encounter.”

She faces challenges with confidence and uses them to fuel and further ignite her passion for teaching. “The more challenging the student, the more I push myself to bring out the best in my teaching.” Teacher Analene Pam has mastered the traits of being calm and patient while establishing her authority and credibility as a teacher.

She feels excitement whenever students call her their favorite. For her, it is a truly rewarding experience to gain the confidence of students who will pursue learning the English language with her. “Whenever new students book a lesson with me, I feel excited knowing that there will be new people who will learn from me and whom I can learn from as well.”

She finds teaching a very rewarding career. She feels a great sense of achievement whenever her students are inspired and demonstrate their love of learning English. “I am especially motivated when I see my students’ progress from the time I start teaching them. It is an accomplishment for me to help others have a positive attitude towards something that can make them better.”
