Teacher Dave Wellingtone shares tips for breaking away from last year’s failures and hopelessness, and changing 2021 by loving life, yourself, and others.
Last year was a tough year for everyone. Teacher Dave Wellingtone was one of the many people hit by unemployment due to the pandemic. Fortunately, while looking for a way to earn from home, he found 51Talk and was successfully launched as an online English teacher.
After just two months of teaching on the platform, he shared his achievements and teaching journey with fellow teachers through his 51TEDTalk episode titled Twenty: To Anyone. Following his tips, you can move past failures and hopelessness and live a happier and love-filled life this 2021.
1. Greet mornings with a smile!
Face the day with a smile, even in difficult times. It sets the tone for your day, uplifts your spirit, and encourages you to do your best today.
2. Be grateful.
Despite the fears and challenges from yesterday, practice being grateful and content for the blessings you receive no matter how small they seem. Don’t forget to also thank people who have helped you and made your day brighter.
3. Learn from the past.
Start 2021 by changing bad habits and apologizing to people you have hurt and even those who hurt you. Moreover, learn from the difficulties and losses you experienced last year and turn them into opportunities to help yourself and others.
4. Practice positive self-talk.
When times get tough, be kind to yourself instead of blaming or criticizing yourself. Learn from failures, encourage yourself to try again, and affirm positive feedback. Remind yourself of your strengths and personal worth.
5. Take time off for yourself.
Set “me” time at least one day each month to take care of yourself and do things you love. Give yourself time to breathe and spend a day with family, learn something new, or binge-watch a series. Do anything that will help you rest your tired mind and body.
6. Do acts of kindness.
Don’t hesitate to lend a hand, especially to those in need. Give tips to fellow teachers, help around the house, or give back to your community. In helping others, you also gain fulfilment, positivity, and personal growth.
7. Plan fun activities.
Outdoor plans for 2021 are limited due to the pandemic, but that shouldn’t keep you from planning at all. List down experiences you want to do (even if it’s indoors) or the things you want to buy. Be prepared to adjust them according to current events. Start planning, or else they won’t start happening!
8. Be flexible.
When life doesn’t go according to plan, you have three choices: quit, wait, or adapt. Adapting to situations gives you a better chance at succeeding. However, being flexible means you need to let go of expectations. By letting go, you won’t be held down by failure, and you can stay open to different possibilities.
9. Live your life with purpose.
Why do you do what you do? Living your life according to your passion or personal mission will make you feel happier and fulfilled. Remind yourself of your reason for waking up and live each day with meaning and purpose.
10. Enjoy life moment by moment.
No matter what life brings, make the most of your day! Wake up early, eat healthier, and do what makes you happy. After all, you only live one life, so just enjoy the journey.
A life filled with love is a life lived with a positive and open mind. May these tips from teacher Dave Wellingtone help you grow more deeply in love with life, yourself, and others!
