Team Shamrock, headed by teacher Neri Issa, experienced challenges as a budding teaching center, but that only encouraged them to push beyond their limits.
Building a teaching center involves many risks and challenges, but these did not stop teacher Neri Issa from building and growing her center named “Shamrock Skills Outsource Co.” After being recognized as a 51Talk Third-Party Accredited Center owner, her center continues to train more teachers. Since their establishment, they have served over 200 teachers in total.
However, before teacher Neri Issa achieved this success, she started with a humble team of five teachers. Building the center started in June, and four months after, she began teaching. The early stages of their journey were not easy. Power outages would always prevent them from conducting lessons. However, her team treated this as an opportunity to improve the center. They realized they needed to invest in back-up Internet access and electricity.
Aside from power interruptions, one of their concerns was getting accreditation from 51Talk. Teacher Neri Issa recalls that they had been aiming to be recognized ever since the center was founded. Moreover, she says that they all knew that accreditation from 51Talk would give them more confidence in their profession and validate the legitimacy of their operations.
51Talk’s Third-Party Center Accreditation Program (TPCAP) encourages teachers and teacher-entrepreneurs to create more online teaching opportunities for educators across the country. Anyone with a facility or co-working space with fast, stable Internet access and a few good computers can partner with 51Talk and become an accredited teaching center.
However, they did not stop pushing their limits after achieving the accreditation they had always dreamed of. Teacher Neri Issa shifted her focus to helping her community. Back then, online English teaching was not a popular profession, so they opened more teaching positions to help locals make better earning opportunities, and also to make this field known. Currently, they have 55 active teachers, and they also offer support to home-based teachers free of charge.
For teacher Neri Issa, her teachers’ achievements are also her own. She shares a success story of one of her teachers. “Teacher Eloisa Pears has two degrees, yet she cannot find a profession that gives her the [kind of] earnings she receives at 51Talk. She not only receives the earnings that she deserves, but she [has] also found her passion after all these years. She is also a licensed teacher now.”
She also lauds the following teachers: Heloise Therese, Raven Lisa, Joan Vincent, Nelly Franklin, Melissa Webb, Jezreel Ann, Lydia Lew, Marielle Ty. They are fresh graduates and board passers who chose 51Talk over private schools. According to these teachers, teaching at 51Talk helped them to improve their communication skills. Moreover, these teachers were able to get TESOL and TEYL certificates free of charge through 51Talk.
However, for teacher Neri Issa, their best achievement was when the 51Talk executives visited their center, and they became the model business of TPCAP. Additionally, Shamrock Skills Outsource Co. received the TPCAP Top Center award during 51Talk’s recent virtual event 51TalkFlix: Your Future at Home.
It was not just her hard work that helped them grow and excel; it was the combined effort of all of the teachers from Team Shamrock who pushed beyond their boundaries to deliver the best online English teaching possible.
For those who want to create better opportunities for teachers and others in need, teacher Neri Issa says, “Start. Do it. It is easier than you think. Make it a motivation to HELP your community instead of looking at the numbers or money.”
