51Talk Celebrates a Decade of Lighting Up Students’ Lives

Celebration and excitement filled the night as 51Talk highlighted the landmark 10th anniversary on July 8, 2021 with the special event Light It Up! 10 Years and Beyond with 51Talk, which was broadcasted through livestream on 51Talk’s official Facebook page.

The event celebrated the past 10 years that 51Talk and its dedicated teachers have brightened  the aspirations of millions of young students, which enabled them to speak up, to stand out, and to succeed in life through learning English. With over a thousand viewers from all over  the Philippines, the special livestream included exciting games, special keynote messages, and surprising giveaways.

Light It Up! 10 Years and Beyond with 51Talk kicked off with a special introductory video narrated by Country Head Ms. Jennifer Que. Ms. Que spoke about how 51Talk helped light up the lives of individuals, families, and communities through online livelihood for teachers for the past 10 years, while affirming 51Talk’s commitment to deliver high-quality online English education with the best teachers, and concluding with a message of thanks to all its teachers who have helped students shine brighter.

True to  51Talk’s dedication to inspiring children, the event also provided ways for the audience to give back by providing methods to donate to Food for Hungry Minds, an organization that helps build schools for children in need.

A highlight of the night was the 51Talk planet - a special planet located in the Vela constellation named after the platform - which lights a path that encourages learning, exploration, and enlightenment for young children. Talking about the newly-named planet, celebrated Chinese astrophysicist Dr. Boyang Liu joined a panel discussion where he discussed the discovery and location of Planet 51Talk, as well as the possibility of habitable exoplanets outside the Milky Way. 

51Talk teachers Zeeryl Vivi and Lyko Arbie also asked Dr. Liu questions about topics such as space communication and stargazing. Additionally, a special video message was shown with space exploration advocate and Mars Society founder Dr. Robert Zubrin, who answered space travel questions from 51Talk teachers.  

In a special keynote message, 51Talk’s Founder and CEO Mr. Jack Huang spoke about the beginnings of the 51Talk planet, which symbolizes exploration and thirst and knowledge - valuable traits for 51Talk’s teachers and students. “We believe that by naming a planet after 51Talk, we are lighting it up as we help light up everyone’s dream by succeeding in life through education,” Mr. Huang explained.

A special message was also given by 51Talk’s Guest Teacher Maine Mendoza, who expressed her thanks for being 51Talk’s brand ambassador and congratulated 51Talk on reaching a landmark 10 years.

Alongside the special panel, a webgame, “Light Up the 51Talk Planet,” made available weeks before the event to both promote Light It Up, gave chances for viewers to win special raffle prizes. In addition to that, several major prizes such as a laptop, a TV set, a computer chair, and limited 51Talk merchandise were awarded to lucky viewers who won the event’s raffle draw.

Five teachers participated in the event’s main game, “Name It to Win It,” where they had to list down items in the span of 30 seconds. Teacher Darlene Anne and Teacher Jeff Fortune managed to push through to the finals, where they had to figure out a special phrase by guessing random letters. Teacher Darlene guessed the correct phrase - “Ace Company, Teach Freely” - and won the grand prize of Php10,000.

With fast-paced games, special talks, and amazing prizes, Light It Up! 10 Years and Beyond with 51Talk was a night filled with excitement, curiosity, and discovery as 51Talk celebrated being a beacon of hope and light to both teachers and students alike for the past 10 years - and for many more to come.
