51Talk Teacher Lyndon Bacon Makes History in Boao Forum

Last April 18, 2021, 51Talk teacher Lyndon Bacon made history by participating in the annual Boao Forum. The Boao Forum is a high-profile conference initiated by twenty-eight (28) Asian countries and Australia. Last year, the forum was cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak.  

By day, Bacon works as an English teacher in a local school. In his free time, he works as an English teacher for 51Talk, the leading online English teaching platform in China and the Philippines. When the pandemic hit, the school was forced to cut his pay and eventually closed down. To make ends meet, he looked for other livelihoods and ways to supplement his income.

That led him to seize the opportunity to apply as an online English teacher for 51Talk. “I said to myself,” Bacon recounted, in his story, “that no matter how unexpected the opportunity is, as long as it is good for you, then grab it.”  

Seizing the opportunity soon paid off. Bacon had since become one of the highest-performing and most popular teachers on the online English teaching platform. To Teacher Lyndon,  the livelihood of being a teacher at 51Talk blessed him with a higher income and being able to connect with other people. In addition, he was able personally participate in cultural exchanges and events between China and the Philippines.  

"In terms of education, the Philippines and China are great partners now that we are able to bridge languages and cultures,” he observed. “Education is a bridge between the two countries and I am honored to have the opportunity to become a bridge between China and the Philippines.”  

With more than 30,000 online English teachers now following the same footsteps as Bacon,  a future of a more mutually cooperative cultural and economic exchanges and a beneficial relationship with China is coming into full bloom.
